Sago palm (Cycas revoluta) for indoors and outdoors

The sago palm looks like a palm, but it is actually an ancient plant species that was already growing in the age of the dinosaurs. With its sturdy trunk and glossy, feathery leaves, it instantly gives your home or terrace a tropical feel. At Green Bubble you can order the Cycas revoluta from 60 to 180 cm, straight from the grower.

Indoors or outdoors?

The sago palm looks great all year round in a bright spot indoors. From May to October it can also go outside on the terrace or balcony. Bring it back inside before winter: it can handle a light night frost for a short time, but not prolonged frost.

Caring for the sago palm

  • Position: bright to sunny; indoors preferably close to a window.
  • Water: water sparingly and let the soil almost dry out between waterings. Too much water causes root rot.
  • Growth: the sago palm grows slowly and usually forms one new crown of leaves a year.

Is the sago palm toxic?

Yes. All parts of the Cycas revoluta are toxic to people and animals, especially the seeds. Keep the plant out of reach of pets and young children.
