How do you protect your olive tree or palm from the cold (outdoors)? - Green Bubble

The cold winter days are on their way. Plants, like most people, are not keen on the cold. So how do you best protect outdoor plants such as olive trees or palms when it starts to freeze?

Here are our three tips.

    1. Cover the pot with straw or jute sacks. This gives the roots extra insulation. Avoid plastic, because it suffocates the plant and actually traps the cold.

    2. Wrap the top of the plant in acrylic fleece or jute sacks. Do make sure the jute sacks do not get damp; they can become far too heavy, which can break the branches.

    3. Move the plant close to the house. The warmth radiating from the walls gives extra protection against the cold, especially at night.
