Watering the Monstera Deliciosa
A Monstera Deliciosa does not need much water, but the soil should stay slightly moist at all times. Check this carefully every time you are about to water, because too much water can be fatal for this houseplant. In summer the plant usually needs water once a week; in winter, once every two weeks is normally enough. Surplus water can collect around the roots and cause root rot. Has your plant been repotted? Then we always recommend using a moisture meter or a soil moisture sensor. You can spot a Monstera Deliciosa that has had too much water by the brown spots with a yellow edge on its leaves.
Choosing the right spot
The Monstera Deliciosa likes a spot in bright indirect light. It does not cope well with direct sun, which can even scorch the leaves. The best position for a Monstera Deliciosa is in daylight with a little shade now and then.

In spring and summer you can give the Monstera Deliciosa some extra nutrients, and ordinary houseplant food does the job. In the winter months this is not necessary, because the Monstera Deliciosa, like many other plants, is resting. Feeding during that period can even do harm.

You can prune the Monstera Deliciosa when a leaf has grown old and unattractive, or when the plant is growing out of proportion. Use a sharp knife or sharp pruning shears and cut the leaf off as close to the moss pole as you can. Just take care not to remove too many leaves, because that would be a shame!
If you like, you can also take cuttings from the Monstera to grow new plants. Choose a healthy side shoot with an aerial root and cut it just below a node. Put the cutting in water or straight into moist potting soil. Keep it warm and damp and wait until new roots and leaves appear before you pot it on.
